Identification

  • Crustacean
  • Half an inch long
  • Barbed tail

Threats

  • Eats zooplankton, an important food source for fish
  • Fouls fishing gear, and prevents fish from being landed
  • Tail spines prevent small fish from eating the fleas and may puncture the stomach lining of larger fish

Management

  • No known control methods exist
  • Clean all mud, plants, and animals from trailers, watercraft, and gear, and dispose of in the garbage or on dry land
  • Drain water from the livewell, bilge, motor, hull, and bait containers before leaving the launch
  • Dry boats, trailers, and gear for at least 5 days before launching into another water body
  • Visit a local boat wash and decontamination station
